Girls Getting Ahead in Leadership
FREE Summer Arts & Project Footsteps Programs
For immigrant & refugee girls in high school!
Summer Arts, Mon/Weds 3-5 pm, Field trips on Fridays
Starts June 21 and runs every Mon/Weds for 6 weeks until July 28, with additional field trips throughout the summer. Unleash your creativity! Meet local artists, learn how to make cultural artwork, and go on field trips around the Twin Cities! Field trips will be scheduled for Fridays.
Project Footsteps (Girls Democracy in Action), Tues/Thurs, 3-5pm
Starts June 21 and runs every Tues/Thurs until July 29. Get inspired to create change in your community and build leadership skills through this fun and interactive program.
Every summer, GGAL switches gears from our college-focused program, to social activism, art & exploring new places in the Twin Cities!
Project Footsteps (Girls Democracy in Action)
Participants will learn how to create social change within the community, build leadership & advocacy skills, learn about international & local politics and social issues, participate in a community service project of their choice, and go on a tour of the Capitol & meet with a Minnesota legislator!
Summer Arts
Participants will learn about visual arts, create their own artwork based on their ideas on race, gender, and identity, introduce their art to the community and participate in the Cultural Art Imbizo, learn about different forms of art from local artists, who will share their work and stories, and go on field trips to art museums in the Twin Cities, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Walker Art Center Sculpture Garden & Weisman Museum.
Field Trips
Throughout the summer, GGAL Participants & Alumnae are encouraged to attend field trips around the Twin Cities. This Summer, GGAL have the opportunity to go to the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minnesota Zoo, the Walker Art Museum, the Minnesota State Capitol, the Minnesota Institute of Art, Girl Scouts Camp, Grand Slam, Valleyfair
